MockingBird Offers Fresh Slate
of Group Programs for Vocalists
Singers Unite at Mockingbird School of Music!
Barbershop Quartet + Sweet Adelines 101
with Johnny Bosse
Wednesday Nights 8pm - 9pm

$30 per week

Learn the All-American Classic Barbershop Quartet style from a sought after vocal technician and Barbershop Harmony Society Coach from the Rhode Island area. Learn the history, performance practice and vocal/harmony skills needed to perform in an authentic Barbershop or Sweet Adeline's quartet. Songs will be selected based on singer's experience and skill level and will come from the vast repository of the barbershop genre. Such examples could be "My Wild Irish Rose", "Mr. Sandman", and "Coney Island Baby".

This is music in a very pure form created with nothing but human voices coming together to create a rich and satisfying texture that is pleasing to the ears and invigorating to the soul. Barbershop allows you to find your voice and be a part of creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts.

You will learn harmony and blend, pure vocal production, performance practice of the unique barbershop genre, and stage presence as a soloist in a small ensemble. Other skills include incorporating comedy into your performance, understanding what composers want in the performance of their piece through understanding functional harmony and music notation. This expansive experience will broaden your vocal pallet, and help you develop new skills as a vocalist that you can bring to this and other genres!

There will be 2 quartets: 4 guys and 4 girls. Each quartet will learn and perform 3-5 songs, and both quartets will learn a joint song to be performed together in a VLQ (very large quartet). All ages are welcome! Bass, Baritone, Lead, and Tenor parts. If more students are interested, quartets will be formed based on vocal compatibility.

This is an all ages program.

Rock Vocal Harmony Group
with Emily Hamel

Friday Nights 7pm - 8pm

$30 per week

MockingBird is putting together a group of back up instrumentalists whose sole purpose is to provide this group of singers the unique opportunity to...

Sing harmony with live band accompaniment!

Songs could include selections such as:

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" - Rolling Stones
"We Will Rock You/ We Are the Champions" - Queen
"Royals" - Lorde
"Creep" - Radiohead
"Hey Jude" - The Beatles
"Under Pressure" - Bowie/Queen

Singing with a rock band is not only tons of fun, but it also builds confidence and stage presence. The entire purpose of the band is to create a solid foundation upon which multiple vocalists can focus on singing sweet harmony together and to learn how to rehearse and perform with a live band.

For those who may not have had the opportunity to sing with a band before, this valuable experience will help them to grow as performers. For those who have been lucky enough to sing with a rock band, this session will be as fun and exciting as they remember.

Singers do not need to know how to play an instrument, they will perform vocals only. We are looking for 8 or more singers to participate in this large group vocal experience!

Instrumental Musicians Wanted!

If you are a solid intermediate or advanced musician we invite you to sign up for this band. This will be a playing experience like none other that you've had at MockingBird! The set list and sound of this band will be out of the ordinary. Put your instrumental ensemble prowess to the test. Drums, bass, keys, guitars, all instruments wanted to blend into a tightly knit package!

Be part of something big! Singers and musicians can sign up here!

This is an all ages program.

Johnny Bosse
Voice, Vocal Coach, Piano, Composition, Conducting, Vocal Pedagogy, and Lyrical Diction

I’ve always been engaged with music. Singing in choirs, in barbershops, and as a soloist, music has always been my outlet of expression. As I continued my education in the field, I realized my true passion was teaching. I believe that every student has the potential for greatness within them. I believe in instructing the student as a whole. Breathing, phonation, articulation, resonance, exercises for warming up the voice, vocal health and performing abilities.
